Queen Sugar Is Baaaack!!

Published

on

“Queen Sugar,” is baaaack, I so love this show, Oprah Winfrey has outdone herself with her OWN network and aligning herself with today’s top drama series and creators.

Created by Ava DuVernay the series returned Tuesday night for the second half of its second season. Nothing good is on Tuesday nights, this is the best time and time slot for this hit drama series.

Queen Sugar begins with the Bordelon siblings, their father Ernest Bordelon dies but leaves behind an inheritance: a sugarcane farm. I never knew that black families back in the day owned sugarcane farms so for me this is learning at its best. I love to read about my history, the sugarcane farms was something I never knew about so I thank Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey for telling this story. Its important that we all know where we came from and how hard it took us to get where we are today.

The youngest brother, Ralph Angel, wants to work the land, he’s had some trouble in his past but with this sugarcane farm he inherited, he is trying to right some wrongs and raise his son Blue. The middle-child, half-sister Charley, dreams of being the first African-American woman to own a sugar mill. She was once married to a NBA player who was caught on tape with a stripper, they have a teen aged son together and she is starting over after leaving her cheating husband. And then there is Nova, she’s the writer and doesn’t take any of your bull sh$t. These siblings may fight but they will stand in a windstorm for each other.

Anticipating this seasons world of Queen Sugar!!

Cardi B Nominated For Two Grammy’s

Published

on

“Love & Hip Hop: New York” former reality star Cardi B has exceeded her dreams in the year 2017, from a stripper to an Instagram sensation to a reality star and now a rapper, Cardi B has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. Talk about never allowing the past to define your future, Cardi B is an inspiration to anyone who has a dream and a past, never give on your dream and sometimes your past may work in your favor.

The “regular, degular, shmegular girl from the Bronx” was not only the breakout reality star but her catch-phrases and her no nonsense attitude filled our television screens every week for an hour. We instantly fell in love with the girl from the Bronx and we are definitely happy to see her in the space she’s in.

Cardi has been nominated for two Grammy Awards which is a first for a female rapper. Her song, “Bodak Yellow” has been nominated for two Grammy’s, rap song and rap performance, the category rap performance is a new one on me. That’s really odd but I’m not hating on Cardi, I’m glad to see that she has been nominated for any song this year. This was her first year as a performer, that was a feat in itself.

She put out her first mix tape, “Gangsta B4tch Music, Vol. 1,” last year, it was a little heavy but with her catch-phrases it didn’t do so bad for her first release. “Vol. 2” was released at the beginning of the year, and by the spring, she signed a deal with Atlantic Records. That’s when “Bodak Yellow,” hit and it became the new women’s anthem.

“Bodak Yellow” raced up the charts and knocking Taylor Swift off the top of the pop category. She became the first female rapper to score a solo No. 1 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” almost twenty years ago. She did that by herself without any collaborations, that’s what you call a real hustler!!

Everything seems to be glowing up roses for Cardi, she is now engaged to Offset from the Migos and plans to marry her rapper fiance’ on a VH1 special!! We are so proud of Cardi B and her accomplishments and we wish her the best of luck with her Grammy nominations. The look on Nicki Minaj’s face I’m sure is priceless.
